Tips for Young Athletes to Reduce Injuries

The health experts at Apex want not only parents, but their children as well to be aware of the risks and pitfalls associated with focusing too much on one sport, as well as playing it too often throughout the year. Many more young athletes today are experiencing injuries that even just a decade ago were considered to be pro-level issues.
Just because sports science and medicine are becoming incredibly advanced and precise doesn’t mean we want our children to have to take advantage of it. As the number of sports and activity-related injuries among minors continues to grow, here are a few suggestions to help keep a doctor’s visit out of your child’s near future:
Recovery Time Following Individual Seasons
This means don’t jump straight from baseball to football or basketball with no break.
Do Not Specialize in One Sport
This is the number one cause of sport-specific injuries.
Take 4 Months Off per Year Per Individual Sport
This is true for all sports, and more so for football.
Rest a Minimum of 2 Days per Week
This means nothing other than light cardiovascular or resistance training.
One Team and One Sport at a Time
Do not play multiple organized sports at the same time.
